GAC Group: Will cooperate with Huawei to jointly develop L4 self-driving cars, mass production in 2024

On April 12, GAC Group announced at the 2021 GAC Technology Day press conference that it will cooperate with Huawei to develop L4-level autonomous vehicles, which are planned to be mass-produced in 2024.

In December 2020, Huawei officially released the 96-line medium and long-range lidar products it designed and developed. Huawei’s lidar has a wide range of application scenarios, including long-distance small obstacles, short-range blocking, near-end protrusions, tunnels, left turns at intersections, and basements during actual driving, and it also has high-speed vehicle detection. ability. In addition, Wang Jun, president of Huawei Smart Car Solutions BU, revealed that Huawei plans to reduce the cost of lidar to $200 or even $100 in the future.

Recently, GAC Group (601238) published an invention patent titled “A control method and device for an autonomous vehicle to follow the car”, the publication number is CN110949383B, and the application date is September 2018.

The patent abstract of Qichacha shows that the present invention provides a control method and device for an automatic driving vehicle to follow the vehicle. By judging the acceleration of the preceding vehicle, the driving state of the preceding vehicle is determined. Set different parameter values to calculate the expected acceleration of the vehicle, and control the vehicle to drive according to the expected acceleration of the vehicle, which solves the problem of vehicle following safety and poor passenger experience caused by overtaking or emergency braking caused by the prior art. The problem.

GAC Group has not announced more details on the joint development of vehicles with Huawei, but recently at Huawei’s 2020 annual report, rotating chairman Hu Houkun reiterated Huawei’s position as a component supplier in the field of smart cars.

Hu Houkun said that the ICT technology mastered by Huawei can make competitive products in several key and basic sub-fields of smart electric vehicles in the future. For example, several key areas, such as the Internet of Vehicles, vehicle cloud, intelligent driving, and intelligent power system, may all be the focus of Huawei.

According to incomplete statistics, Huawei’s automotive business-related products have cooperated with SAIC Roewe, SAIC-GM-Wuling, GAC New Energy, BAIC New Energy, BYD, Changan and other car companies.
