Laird Connectivity BL653 Series Modules Now Available at Mouser for Long-Range BLE Applications in Harsh Environments

July 20, 2020 – Mouser Electronics, a distributor of Electronic components focused on introducing new products and offering extensive inventory, is now stocking Laird Connectivity’s BL653 series of modules. BL653 has a rich and complete configurable interface, has an industrial-grade wide operating temperature range, provides reliable Bluetooth 5.1 connection and supports NFC and 802.15.4 communication (Thread and Zigbee), suitable for various c in industrial and other harsh environments (IoT) applications.

The Laird Connectivity BL653 series of modules, available from Mouser, are small modules that provide Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, longer transmission range, multiple wireless features, and a wide operating temperature range of up to 105°C. The BL653 module is based on the compact Nordic nRF52833 system-on-chip (SoC) featuring a 64 MHz Arm® Cortex®-M4 with FPU, output power up to +8 dBm, and excellent sensitivity of -95 dBm at 1 Mbps.

These modules provide Bluetooth 5.1 functions such as direction finding using angle of incidence (AoA) and angle of emission (AoD), Coded PHY for long-distance transmission, and 2M PHY for high-speed transmission, providing data at 2Mbps, 1 Mbps and 125 Kbps Transmission rate. These 15mm x 10mm x 2.2mm modules also provide flexibility in application design, allowing developers to choose between Laird Connectivity’s smartBASIC, simple AT command set, Nordic SDK or Zephyr RTOS. This module family includes integrated PCB trace antenna options to simplify the overall design, or different versions of the Trace Pad are available to connect a range of pre-certified internal and external antenna options.

The BL653 includes modular FCC, IC, CE, RCM, MIC and Bluetooth SIG certifications that can be extended to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) designs without the need for new testing, allowing for faster entry into production. Equipped with an internal antenna or a range of pre-certified external FlexPIFA antennas, the BL653 Development Kit provides design engineers with the tools needed for Bluetooth low energy development in a fully featured kit.
