Operators speed up 5G independent networking, 5G mobile phone prices still have room to reduce

At the 11th “E-surfing Smart Ecological Expo”, China Telecom announced the purchase of 5G mobile phones, pan-intelligent terminals, and industrial application terminals, with a contract volume of 40 million units, which attracted the attention of the outside world. At about the same time, China Mobile’s 5G commercial reservation event was officially launched. In addition, since the first half of the year, Huawei, Samsung, OPPO, vivo, ZTE and other mobile phone manufacturers have successively released 5G mobile phones, and 5G development has entered the fast lane.

According to the survey, the awareness rate of consumers about 5G mobile phones is as high as 92.4%, of which 67.8% of consumers are willing to replace 5G mobile phones. For 5G, consumers are mainly concerned about the speed of 5G and expect more abundant application scenarios.

On September 20, Miao Wei, Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said at a press conference of the State Council Information Office that mobile phones need to rely on an independent 5G network (SA) to reflect 5G performance, rather than a non-independent networking product (NSA) based on the 4G core network. It is expected that next year, my country will officially invest in the construction of an independent 5G network on a large scale.

5G networking speeds up

Different from 3G moving towards 4G era, 4G moving towards 5G is no longer the “integrated” evolution of the core network and the wireless access network, but “disassembled” the two, including NSA (non-independent networking) and SA. (Independent networking) Two deployment methods. At present, NSA is equivalent to integrating part of 5G technology on the basis of 4G network, which can be understood as a “5G transition plan”, while SA belongs to a network system completely rebuilt according to 5G standards.

SA independent networking is the final development form of 5G, which has become an industry consensus, and operators have also voiced their voices and will accelerate the promotion of SA independent networking.

At the “E-surfing Intelligent Ecological Expo”, China Telecom once again clarified the direction of SA (standalone) 5G network construction. Ke Ruiwen, chairman of China Telecom, said that the GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications Association) GSMA announced that China Telecom will lead the global 5G industry to jointly formulate the “5G SA Deployment Guide”.

Ke Ruiwen said that China Telecom has been actively promoting the evolution of SA. In terms of network slicing, it has completed the industry’s first network slicing experiment based on 5G SA end-to-end environment; in terms of mobile edge computing, it has independently developed the MEC platform; in terms of cloudification, it has taken the lead in realizing IPv6-based and cloud-network integration The deployment of 5G SA under the architecture realizes the interoperability of 5G and 4G; in terms of business applications, there are some application innovations for the public and vertical industries.

China Mobile’s goal is to achieve large-scale commercial use of 5G in June next year, based on the 5G SA independent networking architecture, and at the same time for mass users and industry customers. At present, China Mobile has started a scale test in December last year, with about 500 stations in 5 cities, involving 26 scenarios. In the first quarter of this year, SA/NSA chips have been produced, and user-friendly tests will be carried out soon. The goal is to achieve large-scale commercial use of 5G in June next year, and based on the 5G independent networking architecture, it will also be suitable for mass users and Industrial customers.

In addition to China Telecom, China Unicom has also clearly stated that it will build a 5G network based on the 5G Standalone (SA) standard, continue to promote breakthroughs in key 5G technologies, and actively promote the R16 standard protocol and the maturity of SA (standalone) network equipment and terminals.

Next year, the price of 5G mobile phones can be as low as 1,000 yuan

On September 20, China Mobile officially launched the 5G commercial reservation activity. Customers can participate in the 5G commercial reservation activity through SMS, “China Mobile” APP, and scanning the QR code. The reservation can enjoy 5G mobile phone discounts and 5G package discounts. Enjoy, 5G business fresh experience and other preferential treatment.

It is understood that the three major operators have postponed the deadline for the 5G experience package from the end of September to the end of October. This means that the official launch of 5G commercial use may be scheduled for the end of October.

Regarding the specific price of the 5G package, Wang Xiaochu, chairman of China Unicom, once said that by November 22 this year, China Unicom’s 5G package will mainly be carried out by adding functional packages, and the minimum package is 190 yuan per month. According to reports, the price of each grade of Telecom’s 5G package has also been basically determined, and it is expected to range from 199 yuan to 599 yuan. China Mobile has not yet disclosed the specific price of the 5G package. Industry insiders expect that the minimum tariff of China Mobile’s 5G package should also be around 200 yuan.

In terms of the price of 5G mobile phones, when the 5G license was just issued, the first batch of 5G mobile phones on the market were all around 5,000 yuan. Judging from the latest 5G mobile phones released, the price is falling rapidly. The iQOO Pro 5G, known as the “cheapest 5G mobile phone” The edition will be priced at 3798 yuan for the first time.

China Telecom expects that there will be a large-scale replacement of 5G mobile phones in mid-2020, and the price of 5G mobile phones will drop rapidly; 5G mobile phones will be popularized to the price range below 3,000 yuan in the first half of 2020, and can cover the price range within 2,000 yuan by the end of 2020. 5G mobile phones will be cheaper, and more users will be able to buy and use them.

Previously, Li Huidi, vice president of China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd., also made it clear that China Mobile will promote the rapid price drop of 5G chips and terminals, and launch 5G mobile phones in the range of 1,000 yuan to 2,000 yuan by the end of 2020 to achieve high-end, mid-range and low-end 5G products. develop.

According to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, at present, nearly 20 5G mobile phones are available for the market, and there will be more by the end of the year. 5G equipment and terminals have entered a mature stage.
